The same kind of snobbery exists in many other areas, but with food it is particularly common, maybe because it's so easy. And of course, there are also many other types of snobs who happen to have more 'credentials'.
Science-minded people with absolutely no aesthetic sense - such superficialities are beneath them. They don't even consider that there may be science behind aesthetics, or that how beautiful things make us feel is as fundamental to life as the other areas that science examines. It is unscientific to not probe human reactions towards beauty and ugliness and try to work out what laws may exist.
When motivated by self-aggrandisement ('look how sophisticated I am') or by a kind of arrogant conformity ('everyone knows x is better than y'), snobbery is insufferable. However, if you are genuinely motivated to seek out the superior, please go about it, but quietly.
