Why is this site text-only?

I doubt I am the only person who is sick of the oversaturation of ads, pop-ups, cookie notices and visual clutter on what the web has become today, almost to the point that it's unusable. In the early days, it was very different: the Internet was far less commercialised, and you were not boxed into platforms that wanted as much of your personal data as possible to make money. And even before that, there was Teletext. As a child, I was fascinated with this technology that magically turned a TV into a kind of computer, capable of displaying purely text-based information that was updated live.

The idea behind this site and its layout was heavily influenced by that and Gopher.

I believe there should still be a space for just writing itself, without any bloat, and that there will be an audience, however small, who value text written by humans, not generated by AI or having its attention exploited. Shouldn't stories, thoughts and opinions still have a place online?

It is too early to know what I will do with this site, but I hope it keeps growing in an interesting direction and that you'll return.
